Stratford Engineering worked closely with the architect and developer to realize these two new 12-story mixed use buildings in the Morrisania area of the Bronx . The towers, which were sponsored by the New York City Housing Development Corporation, include 227 affordable rental apartments, over 52,000 square feet of ground floor commercial space, and an underground parking level.<\/p>\n

The tower consists of a steel frame from the foundation to 3rd floor transfer level, topped by a 10 story masonry and planking structure. Due to the existing rock profile, the building sits partially on piles and partially on hard rock. The mixed steel and masonry structure is an elegant solution that meets the challenges of the site in a cost-effective manner. The steel framing of the lower floors provides maximum flexibility for commercial tenants, while the masonry and planking structure of the upper floors helps to maximize apartment ceiling heights.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
