Description:
Stratford Engineering assisted Cayuga Capital Management in the development of this large site located in the up-and-coming Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The existing buildings, which include a church, a four-story former middle school, as well as vacant land will be converted to 99 residential units. CCM plans on retaining the existing structures, including the church and the school, which will be gut renovated.
After its completion, the total size of the project will be 90,000 square feet of residential area including parking spaces. New floors composed of steel and light gauge metal will be inserted into the cavernous existing masonry shell of the church building, preserving its appearance from the exterior while significantly re-configuring the interior space for residential use.
The majority of the existing school structure will remain, with selective reinforcement to floor wood floor joists and the erection of light gauge metal stud storage platforms. A new seven story building will be framed using structural steel resting on new cast-in-place concrete footings.
