Description:
Stratford Engineering was in charge of transforming an existing garage and auto shop in the up-and-coming Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn into a new, 6 story mixed-use building. The new building includes 12,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor, along with a parking garage on the second floor and 66 residential units totaling 48,000 square feet. This building was part of a development project by Cayuga Capital to convert multiple neighboring buildings, including the former St. Mark's Lutheran School and Evangelical Church, into 99 residential units, totaling 90,000 square feet.
Stratford Engineering was responsible for designing the new steel frame and composite metal deck flooring for the four-story addition, as well as designing new foundation elements to support the additional loads. The lateral design consists of steel brace framing hidden in the interior of the building, as well as one exterior and multiple interior CMU shear walls.
