Description:
135 Bowery is an 8-story, retail and office building set in lower Manhattan near Sara D. Roosevelt Park with a brick exterior. The mixed-use building has commercial retail space on the ground floor and loft office space on the floors above.
Stratford Engineering was in charge of designing the foundation and superstructure of the building. The foundation consists of mat slabs and cast-in-place reinforced concrete walls which support the steel superstructure above. The floors are comprised of composite metal deck on steel framing. The lateral load-resisting system for the superstructure is a dual system - steel moment frames in the front and rear of the building, and cast-in-place reinforced concrete shear walls along the core of the structure. Additionally, a steel diagonal-bracing system was designed on the first three floors of the structure.
